Tammurra's Act:
A Legacy That Continues to Save Lives

Tammurra's Act represents more than legislation—it represents hope, awareness, and the power of one family's determination to ensure that no one struggles in silence. Named in honor of Tammurra, this landmark legislation was inspired by the advocacy of her mother, Tammy Bush, who transformed unimaginable loss into a mission to protect others.

The law expands access to lifesaving suicide prevention resources by requiring 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline information to be prominently displayed in places where individuals and families seek care, education, and support, including:
 

• County shelter care homes

• Daycare centers

• Public libraries

• Hospitals

• Colleges and universities

• Nursing homes
   

In addition, Tammurra's Act directs the Illinois State Board of Education to make age-appropriate suicide prevention curriculum available to school districts across the state. By introducing young people to mental health education and available resources early, the Act helps reduce stigma, encourages open conversations, and empowers students to seek help when they need it most.
 

This legislation reflects the belief that awareness saves lives and that education can be the first step toward hope.
 

As Tammy Bush shared: "If even one young person learns to ask for help before despair takes over, then this bill would have done its job."
